Marie Antionette , 2006, Sofia Coppola  Marie Antionette, directed by Sophia Coppola, is an interesting film to say the least. It was not my cup of tea but it was interesting trying to analyze the film. It is a good storyline and drama makes the movie fun to follow. The story follows an Austrian women who has an arranged marriage and becomes a French queen. Along the way she encounters the trouble of fitting in to a new culture, sleeping with her new husband, staying loyal to her husband, and the French Revolution. Coppola uses constant bright outfits and dresses on the characters which really makes the movie. There is always something happening, bright colors that standout to the audience, and a grea...

Rear Window Review

Image
Rear Window , 1954, Alfred Hitchcock Rear Window was a suspenseful thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The movie covers L.B. Jeffries who is stuck in a cast, due to injury, who starts watching his neighbors and their lives. He starts to clue together what he thinks is a potential murder. The movie overall was a little slow for me and I'm not really a fan of older movies. This movie still intrigued me because of how much the director was able to fit into still shots of a man watching his neighbors through his back window. It was truly incredible and that is what kept me watching the movie. The overall story is an interesting one and it helps keep the viewer on the edge of their seat. Hitchcock does a great job at leaving little cliffhangers to make the movie more suspenseful. Overall I would give this film a 7/10 and would recommend this movie to people who like suspense and older movies.

Scene that stuck out to me

Image
The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Irvin Kershner      One of the most popular movies in the Star Wars series is The Empire Strikes Back because of the scene where Luke Skywalker finally faces Darth Vader. The action/thriller movie is so important to the series because it is when Luke discovers that Darth Vader, his enemy, is actually his father. The angles and background really build the suspense and add to the action happening in this film. I don't think I would have done anything different to this scene, the camera moving from far away to show the action to close up to show the emotion of the characters in this crucial scene is perfect. If you were to watch the movies in chronological order you discover this piece of information earlier but this movie was released way before the others came out which made it better and put people on the edge of their seat for longer. Between the suspense of the battle or Luke almost dying, to the emotion of Luke finding out Darth Vader is ...

Dr. Caligari study questions

1. This story is about a man named Dr. Caligari and a man named Cesare. These two travel and make stops at carnivals saying Cesare can predict the future. Cesare accurately predicts the death of someone, soon after that other murders start to happen and people turn their eyes towards Cesare. Francis, the narrator, tries to figure out who is behind the murders.  2. The film uses flashbacks to tell the story, it occurs through Francis explaining the story jumping from past to present. The director also uses angles and lighting to portray a "dark" mood of the story.  3. The film uses dark lighting and minimal information to the audience which leaves us in suspense. With the use of camera angles and darker lighting it also gives off horror vibes to the audience.  4. In the end, the final plot twist is that nothing of the story was real and it was all in Francis' mind. Francis is in a mental hospital along with Cesare, while Dr. Caligari is the director of the hospital.  ...

Introductory

Hello everyone, my name is Jake Pieper and this is my introductory blog.  Some of my favorite films consist of The Maze Runner series, Marvel movies, war movies, and Jordan Peele films like Get out and Us. Recently I saw the movie Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan and thought that was an excellent movie as well. Honestly I am taking this class because it fills out a gen ed requirement but I enjoy watching movies so I thought this course would be interesting. I don't plan on working in the film industry but since I am a marketing major I am sure I will have to work with some sort of media in the future. Overall I am excited about this course and what I have to learn about some of my favorite movies.
